RE: winter camping

The Heber Valley RV Resort is year-round ( http://www.hebervalleyrvpark.com ) and many seasonal workers in Park City commute from the Heber Valley. You might try Jordanelle State Park ( http://www.utah.com/stateparks/jordanelle.htm ), but you only can stay there only 2 weeks at a time. I'm not sure if they have a small section open during the winter, but if they do they might need a winter camp host (20 hours a week). Good luck! janice

RE: How To Replace an RV TV

You all did such a great job. I, however, have the dash-mounted TV, and don't see a good way to remove and replace it. Has anyone done this?

RE: winter camping

Gary, I lived in a stick house in Park City. When I bought my rig used I was told it had a cold-weather package, but am not sure what all that entails. I've had it just down to the mid-20s ... which can be daytime temps in PC. ;) When the infrequent arctic clipper roars through, it can get to 30 below (I would park my cars in the hotel parking garages so I could start them in the morning). My rig's windows are well-insulated, my non-carpeted floors can get bloody cold. Some cold seeps in around the living room slides. The resort you're talking about IS the one I mentioned. I was a reporter for the local radio station and did a story on the resort when it first opened and was told that even if you OWNED your pad (this is a "condo" project) two weeks on site was the max. Then you had to leave & come back. Seems they have moderated their policies on lengths of stay. BTW, you can't beat $550 a month for anywhere to live in PC -- especially in the winter. As you are now shopping for your rig, please ask the PC Resort folks what they mean by "vehicle restrictions apply" in the reservation area. That usually means older/ugly rigs need not apply. Good luck & PM me if you want to have coffee after you arrive.

RE: How to handle non-RV family that want to borrow your MH?

But, how do you handle the family members (brothers, parents, in-laws) who don't have a clue, but expect you to loan it to them like it is a car? ... I allow my anal-retentive son (he comes by it honestly! :E) to borrow it because I know he will care for it like his own. But anyone else? Nah!

RE: winter camping

Thanks. Park City has ONE campground open year round. -Gary Hey Gary, I'll be in SLC for the winter and I lived in Park City for six years. Are you looking at the brand-new park just across I-80 from Kimball Jct? It's new enough it should be set up for cold weather. If it's the one I'm thinking of ... you aren't allowed to stay there for more than 2 weeks at a time ... even if you are one of the site "owners."

RE: DVR (not TiVO or DirecTV)

Yup! Best way to go. We've had one for 3 yrs now and it works great. You copy anything that comes over air or cable. If you use regular DVD-R you can close the session and play it on any DVD player or PC. One DVD can hold 6 hrs of viewable programing. You can bulk buy DVD at a cost of 25 cents each. I have been trying to find out for some time if there was a DVR I could use without a subscription service. Is that what I'm hearing you say?

RE: Persuading Wife To Try Driving MH

I'm in my 50s and I remember talk when I was a girl about how women shouldn't / couldn't drive ... PERIOD! But we all put our big girl pants on ... and we did it then, and we (can and do) do it now!

RE: Persuading Wife To Try Driving MH

I don't post here often but here goes from another woman's point of view. If she doesn't want to drive it, don't press the issue! Hey, I'm pro-choice! A woman has the right to choose whether she uses her body to wheel her guy's rig around. :p Now Missy, don't get all excited. not all of our wives are as capable as you are. By the same logic, nor are all men. :E

RE: My Remodel

Really nice job. I see you ran the flooring just behind the cockpit, which makes SO much sense with a doghouse. I don't have a dinette ... just table & chairs so reupholstering those would be a snap. I see you kept your original couch and recliner. Looks really wonderful, Thom. You and DW should be proud. I think re-doing my floors will be my fall project, then I can go on from there.

RE: Persuading Wife To Try Driving MH

Honestly, some of you guys blow me away. The number of ways in which you seem to talk down about (and to???) your wives positively astounds me. I have a 36' Class A, started with a 29' C, and have been the only driver (or passenger, for that matter). Frankly, I wouldn't get behind the wheel with some of you fellows at shotgun. Condescension is soul-sucking.

RE: My fridge is calling to me ...

It's the switch on the top of the right side door (the same switch that turns off your light)that needs to be depressed further. The pins on the left are for the door heater (heats the divider so the doors don't freeze together). Oh! Oh! OH! Thanks for the clarification. Much appreciated. I love the depth of knowledge available on this forum.

RE: My fridge is calling to me ...

Actually, I'm kinda confused ... you all keep talking about the right-side door. On my unit, there are two slim metal pins that come out from the side of the left door -- near the top -- that are depressed by what look like the tops of two smooth screw heads when that door is closed. There are two light switches -- at the top of each door -- that are depressed and turn off the fridge lights when the doors are closed. Now, the pull-handles have springs in them that pull the handles back in place after the doors are opened and closed. The left-side one rattles a little bit and I've been wondering whether that matters. That's where I have the scotch tape, to hold that one in place. Anyway, on to the important question: Are you on Antelope Island? Nope ... gee, that would have been a very slim pleading "I'm on an Island & can't get to an RV shop," since there is a HIGHWAY to Antelope Island in the Great Salt Lake (and a Camping World nearby). No, I'm in Friday Harbor on San Juan Island (WA), from whence it costs more than $300 to take my rig to the mainland. I'm workkamping here for the summer and will be heading back to Utah in early September.

RE: My fridge is calling to me ...

This happened to us and what I did, now this is very technical :B, I put a bandaid over that little latch/button at the top of the frig. Mine was the right hand side. yours could be the other. It worked for us. I'm just using tape (Mine's on the left.). LOL! The other responses came in whilst I was answering JFG. I'll check those things out. Thanks!

RE: My fridge is calling to me ...

Book says to open door... is refer light on... if so, depress light switch. If doesn't go off, replace the switch. I depressed the light switch for both doors as you suggested, and they both turn off. BTW, the fridge is a Norcold model 1200LRIM. The "dr" light is repeatedly coming on, plus the audible alarm (beeping). My manual says that means the door has been open for more than two minutes. But it happens when the door is closed, even just a couple of minutes after I push on both doors to make sure they are closed. Sometimes I have I come home to find the fridge beeping and it has shut itself off. Not good. I've re-leveled the rig, hoping that might help. It has, some.

My fridge is calling to me ...

... but not in the way it usually does!!! Instead of beckoning me with visions of expanding thighs ... :S this time it is beeping at me: "door ajar! door ajar!" Of course, the door IS shut tight. And if it beeps long enough ... the fridge then shuts OFF. It gets me out of bed about 5x's a night. (!#&%mumph$#@*grrr) I push on the doors and the beeping stops ... for a while. I'm on an island and can't get to an RV repair place for a few weeks (everyone here has BOATS -- go figure). Anything I can check on my own? It is a four-door Norcold (two freezer compartments on top). Thanks in advance for your help.
